Hairy gourd is a smaller version of Winter Melon and is often called Little Winter Melon. It is consumed to expel heat, detoxify the body, and reduce inflammation.

Step 1
Soak the dried octopus until soft and cut into pieces.

Step 2
Rinse and soak the peanuts and black-eyed peas for 15 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Step 3
Peel and cut the hairy gourds into pieces.

Step 4
In a pot, bring the water to boil. Blanch the chicken feet and pork shanks for 5-8 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Step 5
In a pot, add the dried octopus, chicken feet, pork shanks, peanuts, black-eyed peas and enough water to cover all the ingredients.

Step 6
Bring the water to boil for 15 minutes and reduce the heat to medium.

Step 7
Cover the lid and cook for 45 minutes.

Step 8
Add the hairy gourds and cook for another hour.

Step 9
Season with salt and white pepper.

Step 10
Ready to serve.
