Step 1
Preheat oven to 200°C. Cover a baking tray with foil and set aside.

Step 2
Pat the steak dry with paper towel and season the steak with salt and black pepper. Set aside.

Step 3
Use a vegetable peeler and shave the carrot into long thin slices. Toss with five spiced powder, salt, black pepper and olive oil. Place them on baking tray in a single layer and bake for 15 minutes, until golden brown and tender.

Step 4
Heat up frying pan over medium high heat. Add olive oil to pan and cook the steaks to desired doneness, about 4-6 minutes per side for medium rare. Transfer to plates.

Step 5
Take carrot out from the oven and immediate drizzle over maple syrup to coat. Set aside.

Step 6
In a small bowl combine butter, garlic and cilantro until well mixed. Top the steak with butter and serve with roasted carrot.

Step 7
Tips: 1. Take the steak out of your fridge before cooking to bring the steak to room temperature. This will ensure even cooking. Make sure the steak doesn’t stay in room temperature for more than 2 hours. 2. Pat it dry with paper towels to ensure the salt and other seasoning to stick better onto the meat. This will create a nice dry surface for pan frying.
