Deep-fried Black Pepper Onion

If you have been to Hong Kong a well-known Australian Grill, should have taste their signature dish deep fried onion flower. The fried onion petals status presented in full bloom, this dish must be eaten by hand! Pull the petals one by one with your finger, it makes it taste much better.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Clean the onion and trim off the tip. Cut it ¾ of the onion (make sure do not cut through).

Step 2
Mix together the five spice powder, pepper salt, black pepper and sugar. Sprinkle it evenly on the onion.

Step 3
Beat the egg and dip in the onion.

Step 4
Mix together the corn starch and water. Add the onion in the batter.

Step 5
Heat the oil in the pot and deep fry the onion until golden brown and like a flower. Transfer to the kitchen paper to soak up the excess grease.

Step 6
Serve it with ketchup.
