Step 1
Heat some oil in a frying pan and sauté diced onion, garlic and red bell peppers until soft, about 3 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper. Set aside to let cool.

Step 2
In a big bowl, add crab meat, cooked onion mixture, egg, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice and pinch of red chili powder. Mix well.

Step 3
Season with salt, black pepper and sugar. Taste to see if the crab mixture needs more lemon juice and other seasoning.

Step 4
Slowly add in breadcrumbs and gently mixing them in. Don’t add in all at once but add in enough breadcrumbs to bind everything together.

Step 5
Shape the crab mixture into 9 patties and place on a big plate or baking sheet.

Step 6
Heat some oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Pan fry crab cakes until golden brown on both sides, about 3-5 minutes per side.

Step 7
To make the tartar sauce, mix all the ingredients together. Season to taste. Set aside.

Step 8
Serve the crab cakes immediately with tartar sauce and lemon wedges.
