Korean Seafood and Green Onion Pancake with Pickled Onion

Pajeon is a traditional Korean-style pancake which is a very popular appetizer or snack. Dip the crispy pancake in spicy soy sauce to enhance flavour.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1
Cut the onion, red and green chili pepper into pieces. Juice the lemon. Cut the green onion into sections. Set aside.

Step 2
In a pot, add water, light soy sauce, white vinegar and sugar. Cook under high heat and bring it to boil. Reduce to medium heat and cook for 5 minutes. Add lemon juice. Set aside.

Step 3
Place the onion and chili into an air-tight jar evenly. Add hot sauce. Let cool and refrigerate for at least 1 day. Serve with pancakes or grilled meat.

Step 4
Mix the pancake ingredients together. Add water and mix well. Let rest for 1 hour and set aside.

Step 5
Prepare the Dipping Sauce. Mix together the brown sugar, light soy sauce, water, white vinegar, Korean chili powder, minced garlic, white sesame and sesame oil. Microwave for 1 minute. Add diced chili and diced green onion. Pour into a sauce plate.

Step 6
In a pan, add some oil under medium heat. Add sectioned green onion, 1/4 red and green chili pepper, 1/4 batter and pan fry for 1-2 minutes. Add seafood, 1/4 batter, 1 beaten egg and 1/4 red and green chili pepper. Pan fry under medium heat until cooked on surface. Flip it over and cook until golden brown.

Step 7
Cut into pieces and transfer to a plate. Serve with pickled onion and dipping sauce.
